Communication Tower

Crousetown Hall and Tower

The Petite Riviere Volunteer Fire Department had a problem with very poor radio communications within their district which posed a risk to respond and communicate to emergency situations.

In 2009, the Petite Riviere Volunteer Fire Department applied for a JEPP (Joint Emergency Preparedness Program) grant for communications upgrade. The grant was available through E.M.O. (Emergency Management Office) and was successful in secured. The project was costs were shared with the Federal and Provincial Governments (50%) and the Petite Riviere Volunteer Fire Department (50%).

The communication upgrade consisted of a new tower with a repeater and two way pagers for fire fighters and first responders. The equipment for the project was supplied by L.M.R. Communications in Lunenburg. The system was installed in 2010 and is now fully operational.

The new system gives the Petite Riviere Volunteer Fire Department complete radio coverage in their department districts and mutual aid department districts (Italy Cross, Hebbville, Pleasentville, LaHave, United Communites).

This project would not have been possible without the funding provided by the Federal and Provincial Governments, the JEPP grant program offered by E.M.O. and assistance of the Municipality of the District Lunenburg.  The total cost of the project was $47,596.73
